BudiUp privacy policy
BudiUp is a training app with an AI coach (Buri) and a private community of friends. This page explains what we collect, why, and how you control it.
Points transparency with accepted friends
If you choose to enable sharing, your accepted BudiUp friends can review your daily steps, active calories and workout details, including activity, duration, distance and recorded cardio-zone minutes, alongside your points. This includes previous records and data imported from Apple Health, Health Connect and connected devices such as Apple Watch or Oura. It helps friends check how points were earned. These are health and fitness data; they are not made public. Sharing does not include your weight, injuries, meals, sleep or GPS routes; a daily meal-quality bonus appears only as points, never what you ate. You can turn Progress and Calories off in Profile → Settings → Sharing at any time. You can accept the terms without sharing and keep using BudiUp.
What we store
Your account (email, username, optional phone), your profile (name, photo, city and age if you add them), your training questionnaire, plans, workouts, runs, meals and goals, your chats with Buri and what Buri remembers about your preferences, your friends, posts, comments, reactions and stories, and your notification settings.
Health and location
On iPhone, BudiUp reads Apple Health; on compatible Android phones it reads Health Connect, including records Samsung Health or another source has shared there. Access is optional and limited to the read permissions you grant: workouts, steps, active energy and available distance, sleep and recovery measurements. BudiUp does not connect directly to a Samsung watch or write to these health stores. Imported workout details and daily activity totals are saved with your account so they can contribute to your history and points. Available records depend on the source app, device, sync and permissions. Sleep and recovery are calculated on your phone; with your AI consent, a recent summary can be sent to Buri, without raw sleep samples. GPS routes are recorded only while you run a GPS session; a route is shared with friends only if you choose to share that run.
Photos and voice
When you ask for a meal estimate from a photo, that image is sent to OpenAI for analysis. The saved photo copy stays on your phone and is cleaned up after 30 days; only the meal’s foods and numbers are saved in your BudiUp cloud account. Photos you send to Buri and voice notes are sent to our AI provider to answer you and are not stored by BudiUp. Story photos and videos are private to the audience you choose and expire after 24 hours.
AI processing
Buri’s answers, meal estimates and voice transcriptions are produced by OpenAI. We send only what is needed for that request. Buri’s suggestions are not medical advice, and you confirm every change to your plan. Personalised coaching asks for a separate permission first: with it, Buri can use your training profile, logged workouts, runs, meals and messages and, if you connected Health, recent sleep and recovery summaries (such as sleep duration, heart rate, HRV, breathing and blood oxygen). Raw Health samples and GPS routes are not sent. OpenAI does not use these API requests to train its models. You can turn this off at any time in Profile › Settings › Buri data sharing and keep logging by hand.
Buri’s questions and memory
With your coaching permission, Buri sometimes asks a short question in its chat (for example how your energy is after a short night, or how much time you have today). Your one-tap answers are saved with their date and used for that day’s advice; lasting ones, like what you want to improve next, are saved as notes. You choose how often Buri asks, or turn it off, and you can see, correct and delete everything in Buri › What Buri remembers. Health and pain details are never saved as notes. Now and then Buri may ask how you feel; it is optional (“Rather not say” is always there), is used only for a couple of days, is never saved as a note and is deleted after 30 days. Under some replies Buri asks whether its advice helped, to improve how it suggests things. If you enable coaching, Profile › Progress also offers a weekly check-in about how your week felt. Buri also uses the effort you tap after each exercise so it does not ask the same thing twice.
Meal quality
Meals that Buri analyses get a score from 1 to 10. BudiUp calculates it with fixed rules based on the World Health Organization’s healthy diet guidance, using nutrient values from public food composition tables (Australian Food Composition Database, USDA FoodData Central) and Buri’s estimate of the share of vegetables, fruit and legumes and of ultra-processed food. This is BudiUp’s own interpretation of general dietary guidance, not a score assigned or endorsed by the WHO for an individual meal. The score is general guidance, not medical or dietary advice. Each scored meal of 7 or more adds +1 to your weekly points, and 9 or more +2, counting the best three meals, up to +6 points a day.
Food swaps and micro goals
In a logged meal you can ask Buri for a similar alternative (“healthier swap”). Buri receives the meal’s foods and grams and the food notes it remembers (like allergies or dislikes), and BudiUp compares both meals with the same score rules before showing it. If you tap “I like it” or “Not for me”, we save the swap and your answer so Buri learns what you prefer; you can remove saved swaps in Nutrition. Micro goals are small goals of a few days that only you see; their progress is measured from your workouts, steps and meals. Neither adds or removes points.
Habit experiments
If you start a habit experiment (7 to 14 days, for example going to bed earlier or walking more), we save which one, its dates, whether you did the habit each day and the optional energy taps (1 to 4). The comparison is made on your phone from records BudiUp already has; your sleep from Apple Health or Health Connect stays on your phone and only a short result (for example “it seemed to help”) is saved so you and Buri can see it. Experiments are only visible to you, add no points and can be stopped at any time; finishing one earns the Scientist badge, which friends can see like your other badges.
Subscriptions and payments
Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); BudiUp never receives your card details. To confirm and restore your subscription we use RevenueCat, which receives your BudiUp account identifier, the product you chose, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, trial status and the store’s transaction identifiers. We store your subscription status with your account. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records under their own policies, and some may be kept after you delete your BudiUp account where the law requires it (for example, for accounting or tax).
Who can see what
Only accepted friends see your posts, stories, streak, weekly points and the runs you share. Public links are optional: a post snapshot or your name and photo. You can revoke them. Run cards shared outside BudiUp may include a route or street map only when you choose it; the public profile page never includes routes or private progress.
Notifications
If you allow phone alerts, we store a device token to send them. If you often train at a certain hour, an alert may remind you of that day’s session, and after several days without training we write kindly (at most three times); you can turn these off with the training alerts. The lock screen shows a discreet message by default, never the text of replies or comments.
Where data lives
Your data is stored in our cloud database (Supabase) and protected so each person can only access their own data and what friends share with them. We also store which app version and update your phone runs, so we know who needs an update. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in Profile › Settings › Delete account. This removes your account, your data and your files. You can also delete meal photos, stories, posts and what Buri remembers individually. Without the app, request account and associated data deletion at https://budiupfit.com/support/#delete-account. We verify account ownership before processing the request. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription; cancel it with the store separately.
People in Colombia
Under Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013 you can know, update, correct and delete your data, ask what it is used for, withdraw your consent and complain to the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio. You give your consent when you create your account and when you allow Buri to use AI; you can exercise these rights in the app (Settings › Delete account, and editing your profile) or by writing to us.
Reports and support
If you report a post, comment, story or run, we store the report (who reported, what and why) so the BudiUp team can review it. Messages you send from Contact support are stored with your account so we can answer.
